For many young people with disabilities or who are neurodivergent, accessing meaningful career opportunities in creative industries can feel like an uphill battle.
At AFK, we’ve witnessed the power of genuine industry partnerships that go beyond surface-level engagement.
The Partnership in Action
Earlier this Summer, AFK arranged a special visit to Believe, a leading music distribution company, for two of our young people: a music producer from our We Mean Business self-employment programme and a creative industry enthusiast from our Employment and Skills programme.
From the moment our young people walked through Believe’s doors, the company’s commitment to inclusivity was evident. The staff created a genuinely welcoming environment, providing an office tour with personal introductions to team members across different departments. Rather than rushing through standard presentations, Believe’s team took time to explain their roles and how each department contributes to music distribution, creating space for questions and genuine dialogue.
This approach made all the difference. Our young people weren’t passive observers – they were active participants in conversations about career pathways, industry insights, and practical advice from working professionals.

The Impact
The visit’s success was clear in our trainees’ responses. Ivan reflected on how the project “emphasises a welcoming atmosphere and highlights the significant role of music in our lives and communities,” particularly engaging with discussions about marketing strategies and community engagement. Sam’s enthusiasm was equally evident: “It was really good and I enjoyed today’s visit, they were so lovely and I do it again.”
Industry visits provide rare opportunities for young people with disabilities to receive specialist advice from professionals who understand their sectors inside and out. These connections offer more than information – they provide validation, inspiration, and real pathways into competitive industries. For our trainees, this visit represents validation that their aspirations are achievable and that there are professionals willing to support their journey.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire Believe team for sharing our values and commitment to empowering the next generation of creative professionals. Partnerships like these don’t just change individual lives – they help reshape entire industries for the better.
